Airlie Beach

Queensland, Australia

Airlie Beach in Queensland is the gateway to the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. A bustling tourist town that is growing by the minute, it has it's own beautiful beach only 1 minutes walk from the main street, and in the wet season, when there is a danger of stingers in thw water, you can simply use "The Lagoon", a 200 metre long pool right next to the natural beach.

The lagoon varies in depth from ankle deep, up to 2 metres, and it even has lifeguards all year round.

Airlie is a favourite spot with backpackers who crowd the many bars and eateries at night, but it also caters for us "more mature" travellers, with luxury resorts popping up everywhere, and plenty of mooring spots for those arriving in there boats, whether they are 20 foot trailer sailers or 150 foot luxury cruisers.
